Rosie Loves: Frangelico

Frangelico is a relatively new discovery for me. I first drank it in Brixton Bar and Grill one evening when I was suffering bar-block and couldn’t think what I wanted. Stav (the amazing performance artist) knocked up a mean mix of this liqueur with hunks of squeezed fresh lime and a little mountain of ice. Hey-presto! It’s the perfect balance of syrup-sweet and pinging-sour, which rather suits this time of year I’d say. I’ve been ordering them ever since, and working the medicine into my puddings too.

So last week, I treated myself to a bottle of the Italian hazelnut and herb liqueur last week at Gerry’s on Old Compton Street. The pugs were out in their hundreds on the street and it felt like the right place to buy this treat. Gerry’s booze store is packed to the rafters with every bottle you could wish for, and the staff are so impeccably informed and nonchalantly helpful.

And then, quite on the South side of things, I was in Crofton Park the other night getting a Lundy’s (I can’t recommend the jerk pork enough), opposite which stands Mr Lawrence – an old school establishment panelled in miss matching woods. I popped in to nab accompanying VB’s to cool our spicy meal and found Frangelico on offer.

While it definitely goes down well with fresh lime, if you fancy something a little chicer, serve it neat in shot glasses with the Mascarpone and Lime Cheesecake in my new book, Spooning with Rosie, or work it into a chocolate mousse or even a syllabub if you’re so inclined.

Basically, drink Frangelico, whichever way you want, and have a great summer.
