Wish You Were Here

Wish You Were Here

Foreign exchange programmes provide cultural insight, personal growth and (at least when I was student) cute German fräuleins called Heidi.

Of course, Heidi and I were doomed from the start. Two young lovers from different sides of the track… Though I suppose my limited vocabulary didn’t help:

Kannst du das septischer Behälter mir geben bitte?

But cultural exchange is at its best when a two-way street. That was what made the Old Vic’s Bridge so fabulous: all that Anglo-American talent bridging (catch that?) the trans-Atlantic cultural chasm through the medium of theatre. Touching and entertaining. And now over.

Fortuitously, it turns out that the cream of Carnaby’s Newburgh Street boutiques are about to trade places with their Große Apfel equivalents.

Swing by NYC’s Lower East Side to catch everyone from Beyond the Valley and Social Suicide to The Great Frog collaborating on an array of pop-ups. And in return, we’ll get LES’s own fashion and lifestyle favourites (including In God We Trust and Earnest Sewn ) over here throughout October.

That’s all the perks of a month in New York, without forking out for the flights. Plus no cute, pigtailed German fräuleins to break your heart in the process. So everyone’s happy.

INFO
Wish You Were Here is running in New York’s Lower East Side Aug 20–Sept 13, and in London’s Newburgh Street Oct 1–31.
