London Fashion Week September 2009
As the circus gets ready to roll back into town, UJ looks at the top 5 reasons to love London Fashion Week this September.

The Launch
Hervé Léger
Open 18th September, Lowndes Street, SW1
Bandage dressing – less mummy, more Mother-may-I, thanks to 80’s icon Hervé Léger . Having pioneered the body-con look, the label was re-launched with Max Azria at the helm in 2007, and will open its first UK store at the start of London Fashion Week. Situated on Lowndes Street in Knightsbridge, the store will carry the collection on two levels and is set to be the label’s largest flagship boutique to date.

The Pop Up
On | Off
16th – 22nd September, 8 Newburgh Street, W1F 7RJ.
On | Off has nurtured some of London’s finest young talent over the past 12 seasons; and now they’re all grown up, you can buy into a piece of the action. The store will be in Carnaby’s trendy Newburgh Quarter for a limited period over Fashion Week, selling exclusive collections from Jean - Pierre Braganza, Rozalb de Mura, Avsh Alom Gur, and Jasper Garvida, as well as unique On|Off pieces, art, photography, illustrations and furniture from some of the UK’s leading design talent.

The Exhibition
Showstudio – Fashion Revolution
18th September – 22nd December, Somerset House, WC2R 1LA.
Showstudio has pioneered some of the most exciting fashion projects since the website launched in 2000. Under the creative directorship of Nick Knight, it’s worked with the likes of Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh and even Heston Blumenthal, pioneering the use of film as a fashion medium. Grouped into ‘Process’, ‘Performance’ and ‘Participation’, this exhibit will re-visit the most groundbreaking collaborations, and host a studio where you can witness leading photographers shooting first hand.

The Well Earned Break
Armani Caffè at the St Martins Lane Hotel
From 16th September, 45 St. Martin's Lane, WC2N 4HX.
Sure, the Italians may have the man himself, but we have his coffee. Rendering him, we imagine, entirely useless. So, to that whit, indulge yourself in some antipasti, primi piatti, and of course, a well-timed espresso in the cosy back-room of super-stylish St Martins Lane, before launching yourself back into the real world of too-tight stilettos and handbags that just won’t behave. Tough game, fashion.

The Return
In celebration of LFW’s 25th season, some of our best British exports are making their way home, including Matthew Williamson, Jonathan Saunders, Burberry and Pringle of Scotland. And guess who else is coming back? Yup, La Wintour hasn’t set foot on home soil since 2007 and is reportedly making an appearance this season, no doubt setting our normally sedate front rows into a paranoid tailspin of ‘Jesus Christ, I know she’s looking at me from behind those giant sunglasses’.
