FIESTA: Dia de los Muertos
If you’ve been reading us for a while, you’ve probably already twigged that here at UJ, we love Halloween. Hopefully you’ve even been to one of our spooky shindigs . And if you’re new to the site, you’ve turned up at just the right time.
This year, in the spirit of keeping it forward thinking, we’ve decided to mix things up a bit, and throw a Dia de los Muertos party with Cazadores instead! And it just wouldn’t be the same without YOU, dearest readers!
So, next Tuesday, November 3, Cazadores and UJ will be taking over The Bathhouse (Time Out’s best new venue and tucked away in a graveyard in the City of London) to throw a fiesta to remember.
In typical Mexican spirit the fiesta of Dia de los Muertos (or ‘Day of the Dead’) lasts for three days. But throw away sombre thoughts - this is no Semana Santa but a vibrant celebration of the lives of the dearly departed, symbolised by floral garlands, sugar skulls and folk art. Friends and family gather for remembrance, feasting and story-telling.
And of course central to this occasion is the national spirit - Cazadores. A 100% Agave Tequila from the Highlands of Jalisco (hence the deer on the bottle), Cazadores is the world's No. 1 premium Tequila. Designed for sipping and savouring - whether you prefer the unaged Blanco; the Reposado, rested for a minimum of 3 months in new American oak; or the Añejo, aged for a minimum of 12 months.
Cazadores be enjoyed in classic cocktails like the Margarita, the authentic way the Mexicans enjoy it in a Paloma or in contemporary creations. The Lolita with pomegranate is already an office fave here at UJ, and the Vampiro with blood orange is aptly devilish. Our Dia de los Muertos soiree will feature cocktails Cazadores - drinks are complimentary from 8-10pm, and available for £5 for the rest of the evening and we'll be treating you to some authentic Mexican botanas and street food.
We’ll have UJs Audio Sushi and J Saintil on the decks, and Miss Jodie Harsh will also be taking a turn on the wheels of steel. The venue will be dressed to impress - to our theme of ‘Aztec art, floral gothic, skulls & souls’ - and you will need to be as well! All we ask for is a little effort; if you need some Dia de los Muertos inspiration, think glitter and gold, vibrant pinks and purples, feathers, ‘catrionas’ and marigold flowers.
This is all about modern Mexico, so if you’ve got a nod towards Frida , or Crazy Homies in your look, you’ll definitely be on the right track – but no sombreros or ponchos please! Our make-up artists will be on hand should you need to add some last minute touches of DDLM glitz and glamour.
We’re going to drink, dance, and party the night away, so don't miss the opportunity to join our fiesta!
To join the fiesta please RSVP to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it describing what your Dia de los Muertos (‘Day of the Dead’) look will be and if you are one of the first 100 we will send you a confirmation for you and a lucky plus one.
So get those thinking caps on, dust off your dancing shoes, and ring in Dia de los Muertos with Cazadores and UJ. We can’t promise three days, but with your help, we’ll make this a fiesta to remember.
