The World Is Not Enough
Companies setting their sights on world domination
Website, Twitter, Facebook - check.
If we're to believe Stephen 'Praise be the Tweet' Fry, Twitter may well one day become the foundation of a harmonious future reality. But for now, the only thing left to secure total digital domination is an iPhone app. Take Britney Spear’s new offering: for a paltry £1.19 you too can become one of her backing dancers (the wonders of Photoshop) and it even squawks ‘It’s Britney B*tch!’ every time you shake your phone. Through tightly wrung hands and clenched teeth.
Back in the real world, others also seem to be setting their sites on global (or at least London-wide) supremacy. Proud (of Cabaret, Camden club and gallery ubiquity - and no, we're not sponsored) can’t seem to keep their postcodes in check. Determined to inhabit every corner of London, tomorrow sees the opening of their Chelsea expansion which will be dedicated entirely to photography.
Meanwhile not content with a portfolio of spas, members' clubs and our current fave pizzeria, those other UJ-regulars, the Soho House group, are finally unveiling their newest hotel. Based in Soho and launching next week, The Dean Street Townhouse features 39 super-luxe rooms and arty additions from Tracey Emin, as well as a 120-seater all-day dining room serving seasonal fare such as skate knobs (snigger) and pheasant goujons.
Gimme gimme more indeed. Clearly the Spears was onto something.
