Loubet Love-In

loubet love-in

Restaurant land is ever awash with rumours these days, but if there’s one that has been whispered the most fervently in recent weeks, it has to be: ‘Bruno’s back!’

Not since Koffman took to the roof at Selfridges has there been a greater gathering of gastro-luvvies than there were at Bruno Loubet’s (he of L’Odeon fame) intimate little launch party last week. Having returned to London after an eight year absence, he’s back with the brand new Bistrot at The Zetter hotel in Clerkenwell; Raymond Blanc was so excited that despite his somewhat diminutive stature, he managed to hoist Loubet aloft.

This week marks the restaurant’s first full opening to Joe Public, and promises to be a busy one marked by much neck-craning and oohs and ahhs of foodie pleasure. For the uninitiated expect big, bold modern bistro flavours like onion and cider soup with upside down emmental souffle and beef daube Provencale, but with a cheeky nod to the Brit connection, too, in the form of rice pudding pannacotta with marmalade – and Bruno’s Breakfast (served from 7am until 10.30 during the week and midday at the weekend) bears a striking resemblance to a full English.

So, we say blag a table close to the kitchen, all the better for catching a glimpse of the comeback kid – and if you’re satisfied (which we’re betting you will be) give him a little victory shoulder hoist of your own.
