Queen of Hoxton’s First Birthday

queen of hoxton 1st bday

It has to be said, the average one year old is barely alert enough to recognise what a cake is, let alone appreciate a towering birthday confection topped with pyrotechnics which arrives to a fanfare of caterwauling adults. So you’d be forgiven for thinking the Queen of Hoxton might take to her crib for the occasion of her first birthday, tuck in with teddy and slumber through it.

Of course that was never going to happen, and instead of celebrating with a meagre day-long affair and some party poppers, the cutting-edge East End venue is going all out with a week’s worth of live acts, DJ sets, a brass band and a spot of bingo.

The festivities kick off on the 2nd March with international disco punk sensation WhoMadeWho, dressed in their signature skeletal all-in-ones (onesies – how very apt), and will be accompanied by Stop Making Me (KILLEMALL)

Wednesday 3rd features the Light Surgeons as part of the acclaimed Film Friends Forever night, whilst Indie Bingo upstairs promises some extra special birthday prizes for the winners. Art lovers will want to pop by on Thursday the 4th, as the revamped and relaunched Queen of Hoxton Galleries exhibit the freshest new creatives, including the Pirates and Good Wives and Warriors

Kick your weekend off on Friday with a special Cover to Cover night, with an appearance from 9-piece Hackney Colliery Band playing everything from the Backstreet Boys to Stevie Wonder. Sean Rowley of Guilty Pleasures will be manning the decks alongside Christian Laing, Mark Stone and Adam Brown. Wrap it all up with Saturday’s Hoodwink, with appearances from Maurice Fulton, Ray Mang and Get Shakes

Ok, NOW you can sleep it off.
