Press ESCape

press escape

As anyone who has ever known me shall no doubt attest, I can be a pain to get hold of sometimes.

I hold voicemail in the same regard as some hold dental check-ups or lawyers (a sadly necessary evil, best avoided where possible). I possess neither iPhone nor Blackberry (not through any moral standpoint so much as a contractual happenstance). And the sheer volume of emails I receive per hour (I’m not complaining – just ex-plaining) I feel forgives my occasional reticence to fine-tooth-and-comb the unending influx some days.

Pray, do not class me a churlish ludite and wipe your hands of me. For the most part I adore technology. I relish my laptop, my iPod and mobile phone. I too get as excited by the latest Apple iteration as the next fanboy. But does it really all need to be so bloody incessant?

Which brings us neatly to the point: at last I have an excuse.

Should you need to get hold of me next week only to find to your frustration that I’m distinctly off-radar, chances are it’ll be The Parlour ’s fault. You see, there is finally a truly tech-free oasis in town. And no, I don’t care if it’s a press stunt for the new Mien Magazine or not. For there shall I be. No SMS thumb-dancing. No phone ring or new email ping. No Google, no Wikipedia, not even a spell-check. Just me, an old board game, perhaps a real notebook and wealth of spelling errors. And no doubt an even more indomitable mountain of emails waiting impatiently at my desk.
