Dancing Under the Influence
DIU promises a new clubbing experience.
Think of DUIs (the American equivalent of a driving ASBO, minus Jeremy Kyle threatening you with a drug/paternity test), and you immediately think Lohan, Hilton and Hogan – which is just the kind of clientele we’re hoping won’t be appearing at Soho’s latest club launch – DIU - tomorrow; though with an MTV party already booked, there’s no telling what kind of miscreants might turn up.
This ‘boutique lounge club’ and its confusing moniker are hoping to refresh Soho’s nightlife scene with an intimate affair comprising two separate spaces for dancefloor and laser-lit VIP section (sunglass wearing starlets probably need the extra lighting). Designed by the guys behind Movida, interiors include leather, black tiled walls and gold leafed timber panelling, whilst drinks come courtesy of Ed MaCavoy of LAB, and the music promises to be built around house, as well as live acoustic sets for chilled out weekday evenings.
So whilst we are looking forward to something a bit more sophisticated on a Soho street that’s so far brought us, erm, Moonlighting, it all kind of makes you wish we were playing by the UK’s rules. Where public service punishment gets celebrities like Naomi Campbell and Boy George sweeping the streets, and they don’t let your Chihuahua accompany you for a night in the clanger.
Paris would make an excellent champagne server, whilst Lindsey – surely - would be perfect as toilet attendant. One can hope.
