Network

Art & Culture

This event has ended.

In 1976, audiences were told to prepare themselves for a “perfectly outrageous motion picture”, with the release of Network. Touching on dystopian media landscapes, hysteria and a world where populist opinion trumps fact, Paddy Chayefsky’s Oscar award-winning film went on to become an iconic satire on the then-modern day news cycles. What’s inescapably eery, tuning in via 2018, is just how timely those themes still feel. Screenwriter Lee Hall and director Ivo Van Hove bring Network to the stage for the first time at the National Theatre, with Bryan Cranston (yes, of Breaking Bad) appearing as Howard Beale. If you’re all out of Black Mirrors, this will be just the ticket.

Tickets are sold, out but £20 Friday Rush tickets remain – visit the National Theatre’s Friday Rush site for details.
