We know, we know, June was a washout. So this month, we’re playing it safe and keeping indoors. For starters, we’ve got a blockbuster exhibition at the Tate and a sultry new cocktail bar to check out. Food wise, it’s the 4th of July, so cheddar grits and pickle backs are on the menu. Or, stick to posh kebabs and sandwiches. And if you want to party, we’ve picked our favourite nights in London AND Ibiza (if you’re after sunnier climes). Enjoy!
EAT: DEVELOPMENT SUNDAY SESSIONS AT LE BAB
The trailblazers of the posh kebab trend, Le Bab want you to have your say. Starting from July 3, the Kingly Court restaurant is set for bi-monthly ‘Development Sunday Sessions’. The concept? Our friends (and favourite travel junkies) at Suitcase Magazine are throwing a party with music makers, Juicebox. Taking place at The Brewhouse in London Fields, the double header day-to-night party has all the essential ingredients for a good time: DJs, live acts (Cadenza, India Rose, Becky Tong…) food, cocktails and good vibes. SEE: GEORGIA O’KEEFFE AT THE TATE MODERN

If you have to yet visit the newly opened Tate Modern Switch House, the Georgia O’Keeffe blockbuster exhibition is the perfect excuse. One of the pioneers of 20th century art, the exhibition, with over 100 paintings on show, will show the breadth of the trailblazer’s work, from expansive blooms to stark sweeping landscapes, not missing Jimson Weed/White Flower No. 1, the most expensive painting by a female artist ever sold at auction ($44.4 million).

From ceramics to calligraphy, pickling to pasta making, if you want try your hand at a new skill, your best bet will be at Town Hall Hotel’s Summer Camp, with At The Table. The program of culinary and creative workshops, will be hosted by some of London’s best: Raw Duck, Grace & Thorn, Lamplighter London and Turning Earth Ceramics. As for us? We’ll be trying our hand at making soup dumplings by Dumpling Shack.

Cajun shrimp, Maryland crab cakes, pickle juice fried chicken, smoked chedder grits, all washed down with home made pickle backs… sound good? Then don your stars and stripes and make sure to book a table at The Richmond for its 4th of July finger lickin’ set menu feast. It’s going to be a big-un.

From the guys behind The Four Sisters Bar in Islington comes their second bar, the sultry Dickensian Four Sisters Townhouse on Bow Lane. The look is an old curiosity shop meets a Victorian gentlemen’s club: think library walls, old leather wingback chairs and salvaged knick knacks. The experimental cocktails will change weekly and food-wise it’s thoroughly British, including its artisan sandwich menu.
INTERNATIONAL: ELECTRIC CASTLE FESTIVAL IN ROMANIA

Mix up the usual festival circuit with a destination a bit more unique. Head to Transylvania for the Electric Castle Festival, the four-day music festival that takes place within the grounds of the 15th century Banffy Castle, where the likes of Sigur Rós, Skrillex and Gorgon City will play. Recently named Europe’s Best Major Festival at the Festival Awards, book into a premium yurt or on site modular hotel room for some R&R between flitting between the eight stages, yoga classes, tech park, plethora of food vendors, cinema…the list continues.
