Vibe & Decor

Rarely does a restaurant offer both impeccable food and décor. Normally, it’s a trade off: fantastic food in an unimaginative setting, or a great atmosphere but sub-par food. Jamavar does both. It’s designed by Fabled Studio, the people behind the interiors of Ceviche, Beagle, Penhaligon’s and Noble Rot, and takes inspiration from the Viceroy’s house in New Delhi. It’s a celebration of Indian excess, pared-down for the London crowd: marble, dark timber panelling and an embellished bar.

Flavours

Put simply, Jamavar offers impeccable versions of Indian classics. The mixed papads (essentially poppadoms), Old Delhi butter chicken and prawn mappas are all worth ordering if you want the taste of your takeaway favourites, Mayfair style. But the small plates are where the more adventurous can branch out, and we’d recommend it. The Chandni Chowk Ki Aloo Tikki is a long name for a very delicious dish; all spicy, creamy potato-y goodness, and the malai stone bass tikka is tandoor cooking at its finest.

Top Tip

Go for the G&Ts over the cocktails.

Highlight

We’re still thinking about the stone bass.
