One of Clerkenwell’s most famous eateries, The Eagle enjoys such accolades as ‘The original London gastropub’,  when it started serving food from the spectacular open kitchen in 1991 to what has become a group of hardcore followers. With junk shop furniture and mismatched crockery filling the old-mans pub interior, it’s a cosy, smoky site which may force you to stand to enjoy a pint, but the Mediterranean meals and lively atmosphere make it worth it.
