London buses come in two varieties; double-decker, and long and bendy. Much controversy surrounds the bendy bus, with many claiming it’s unsuitable and unsafe for London roads, and Boris Johnson vowing to bring back a modern version of the traditional Routemaster.

Bus stops and shelters are all equipped with decent maps and route planners, in particular keep in mind the letters mounted on top of shelters, as these correspond to your location on the maps and can help you figure out where you can catch specific bus numbers from.

Night buses are a great evening alternative to cabs, and whilst not all routes run night shifts, there’s a healthy amount of options which should get you safely home.
