Mydeco Design Scout: May

The flowers are blossoming, the sun is shining (have we spoken too soon?) and here at mydeco we are gearing up for an exciting month of design treats as summer kicks in across the capital. There’s plenty to see so don’t hang around...

Out and about: Tobias and the Angel

Barnes-based Tobias and the Angel has long been a cult destination for fans of original, handmade and quirky designs. A veritable Aladdin’s cave, the shop is brimming with an eclectic array of products lovingly crafted and curated by its founder, Angel Hughes. Everything is for sale, including the furniture; top of our list are the stunning block-printed fabrics which are handmade by Angel and her team in their workshop in Surrey. Angel also runs block-printing  day courses with tea and cake thrown in... Who could resist? Check out our interview with Angel Hughes and find out what makes her tick and why she abhors fitted sheets.

Eye candy: Lulu & Nat

Over at our exclusive design boutique, we handpick Britain’s hippest independent designers, and this month we’re weak at the knees for Lulu & Nat’s summery Anglo-Indian designs. The British duo sell a funky and vibrant selection of block-printed textiles including butterfly print quilts, table linen, cushions and wall hangings, with  warm colours and soft textures that will add instant shabby chic charm to any home.

Get it or regret it: Sagaform martini glasses at Caab Living

Nothing gives your home instant sparkle like a dash of coloured glass - and these bright, hand-blown martini glasses by Sagaform are no exception. With a chunky feel and bold, contemporary lines, they will funk up any garden table this spring come rain or shine. Add coloured curaçao for true technicolour glamour.

Staying in: Print and Pattern, the book, by Bowie Style

For design junkies across the globe, the Print & Pattern blog has become something of a Bible, showcasing kitsch, colourful designs and out-there prints that will melt even the hardest heart.  Named – you guessed it – after the blog, author Bowie Style’s debut book features an eclectic selection of designs, oozing playful retro-Scandi-folk charm and colour. Owls and babushkas feature in abundance.

What with the current resurgence of fifties pastels and masculine lines, we have gone a little bit Mad Men manic over at mydeco. Peggy Olsen is so hot right now it hurts. In honour of the hit show we have come up with five top tips for getting the Mad Men look in your home: you’d be Mad to miss it.
