So by now you know that Guinness and Wright Brothers Soho are having a month of Guinness and Oyster Masterclasses. And to kick things off, we went down to try it for ourselves last Wednesday.

Led by Wright Brothers’ oyster expert, Simon Lamont, and Guinness beer expert Nick Doyle, we matched a range of beers (West Indies Porter, Dublin Porter, Rye Pale Ale, Guinness Draught and the Hop House 13, which is now a UJ fave) to different oysters done all ways – natural, fried… Japanese (wasabi!!) and, as promised, it was nothing but a shucking (sorry!) good time. Oh, and before you ask, yes, there is a right way to eat an oyster (slurp vs. gulp or chew… there’s a difference!).

The classes are small and intimate and the vibe relaxed, which is a good thing because it’s 90 minutes of slurping, shucking and sipping. We learnt about the history of Guinness and oysters - the matching dates back to the 1800s and, well, now we can see why. The bitter taste of Guinness paired with salty, juicy oysters – a match made in heaven!!

The Guinness and Oyster Masterclasses are taking place on Saturdays throughout October: 15th (2.30pm -4.30pm), 22nd (12pm-2pm) and 29th (12-2pm) at Wright Brothers Soho (13 Kingly Street, W1) at a cost of £40 per person. Quote ‘Urban Junkies’ when booking your masterclass and receive £5 off the price of your ticket.
