101 Pimlico Road
Simple and Slightly Posh Nosh
101 Pimlico Road, SW1 8PH – 0207 730 0202
Location
In an increasingly gourmet-friendly part of Pimlico – The Orange (from the boys behind Thomas Cubbitt) and chocolatier William Curley have also recently opened nearby.
Vibe
Young gun owners Will Guess (24) and chef Keith Goddard (29), who previously worked under Tom Aiken, are bursting with passion about good quality food. All the meat is from high-class butcher O’Shea’s and, this being the first restaurant site to ever serve truffles in London back in the Seventies, theirs are sourced from the original supplier.
Flavours
With a pie, a burger (Black Angus or rose veal which has quite a following) and cote de boeuf (for two) always on the menu, there are also plenty of lighter choices plus some fine fishy items like spicy deep fried whitebait with lemon aioli and roast cod with spinach, black pudding, parsley and chili.
Décor
Less is more here – you don’t want to scare off the locals – so the modest-sized room has been kept simple, light and neutral. Reminiscent of Kensington Place, back in the day.
Upshot
A combination of simple and slightly posh nosh brought up to date by Goddard’s expert touch. A good bet for a tranquil set lunch before you hit the King’s Road or somewhere to take the parents in the evening before a spot of culture at The Royal Court.
