Q GRILL
Memphis comes to Chalk Farm Road.
1 Chiltern Street, Marylebone, W1U 7PA
Location
In the heart of Camden, opposite the Stables Market, Q Grill is a welcome addition to the restaurant wasteland of NW1.
Vibe
Laidback, sociable and busy: all of the tables in the 150-cover space were occupied by a mix of gig-goers, locals and Des McDonald devotees.
Flavours
Decidedly Southern. Cornish hens wings, barbequed in a smoky glaze and delivered to the table in a takeout foil bag, packed a punch. The Josper ribs, cooked at a fiery 300 degrees Celsius (massive, deliciously charred, and uber tender) are a must. Sides are similarly indulgent: a side of scrumpy onion rings were perfectly crisp and moreish. The dessert menu focused on classics with a twist: the main star was a devilishly boozy bourbon and pecan tart, although the banoffee cheesecake looked a close second. Now for the drinks: try a fresh and zingy gin cobbler (lemonade, ginger ale, Sipsmith Summer Cup, agave syrup), or a classic, all-American root beer. Or both.
Décor
Southern, with a hint of hipster: rough timber, industrial lighting, Dixie-style booths and neon signage.
Upshot
Q grill does takeaway, too…fried chicken to go, anyone?
