Ace Hotel Group have chosen Kyoto for their first Japanese property, landing in the 1920s glory of the former Kyoto Central Telephone Office.
Ace Hotels have teamed up with Kengo Kuma on the hotel’s design, which will be located on the site of the Shinpuhkan Mall in central Kyoto, the former base of the city’s central telephone exchange, dating back to the 1920s. Opening in late 2019, there are few details yet of what to expect, but Ace and Kuma are both known for embracing creative hubs in their designs, and its thought the hotel’s interiors will be made in collaboration with Japanese artists, paying their dues to the area’s imperial and industrial legacy.
