Travel: Do Not Disturb

Can Lluc, Ibiza

The five star agroturismo

About

Tucked away in the Ibizan countryside (just outside San Rafel and only 15 minutes from Ibiza town), this old farmhouse is still family run (say hi to Lucas!) and has rustic luxe down to a tee. After you make your way up the long gravel road, put your bags down and make yourself comfortable. This truly feels like your home away from home.

The Hotel

What started as Lucas’s grandfather’s house is now an agroturismo with 12 rooms and 8 villas. Those in the main house have stone walls, high, wood beams and a cosy feel, while the newer villas are contemporary spaces with all the mod cons: glass showers, slate structures, sleek lines. The terraces with sunbeds, sofas and tables make these a great choice for those seeking some privacy.

The Vibe

So few hotels in Ibiza get it right! Some of the hotels – big and small – host parties on certain nights that completely change the atmosphere of the hotel – so much so that you wish you were anywhere BUT there. Not here. Can Lluc has low atmospheric music, and is always a tranquil space. This is not a party hotel, so it’s the perfect place to lay your head for a relaxing stay, or the perfect antidote to late nights at the clubs.

The Restaurant

Cava for breakfast? Don’t mind if we do. Eggs, crepes and pancakes à la carte are included, which is a nice touch. Need a plate? They’re in the armoire; help yourself. Dinners are candlelit and here you’ll find all the usuals – gazpacho and house salad, fresh fish, paella and fideuà – but all done with a contemporary twist. Desserts were a highlight: sorbets came in champagne glasses and you can add vodka or bubbles (balance is getting tipped!).

The Staff

Sometimes we don’t love a boutique hotel because the staff are always around – you feel like you are continually having to make conversation. The staff at Can Lluc were always there when needed (reservations? beach towels?), but never really visibly around. We don’t know how they did it, but it really did make us feel like we were in our very own (well serviced) home.

Highlights

UJ loved the sunset point. It can be hard to get to a sunset spot every night, but it’s always a shame to miss it. Here, a short hike up a trail and you are greeted with a large daybed and perfect view. Take a bottle up and enjoy!

Top Tip

Hire bikes (balance!). They do have a workout facility, but why be inside when you could be cruising the surrounding trails? Go exploring on the grounds. Roosters and lizards, swings and olive trees: UJ saw it all.

Close By

You’re right by San Rafel. Can Pilot is a great restaurant (for the food over the atmosphere) so make a booking if you want to stay close. A short drive away is Ses Boques for lunch, and Sunset Ashram for sunset isn’t far either. Mamboats are close too, should you want to hire a boat to Formentera.

When to Go

Winter would be cosy, summer is superb. We think any time would be good.
