The Lowdown
Housed in a former textile factory that’s been empty for almost 20 years, the New Road Hotel brings a new boutique stopover to Whitechapel, with Marco Pierre White’s English Chophouse also in tow.

The Facts
Independently owned, the New Road Hotel continues the pared-back luxe feel seen at The Pilgrm and Philippe Starck-designed Mama Shelters throughout Europe. Industrial design and interiors decorated with artefacts uncovered from the original site are mixed in with large social spaces (every floor has a foyer), a cereal bar and rooftop terrace. Room sizes range from pocket size to warehouse size and loft size (which have a terrace – look out for the hot tub!), each with exposed brick, large windows, Hypnos beds, rainfall showers and 49″ flatscreen TVs. Minibars, ironing boards and the other usual features have been removed from rooms (you can find them in the communal foyers though), to allow for more space once you’ve shut your door for the night.
