About

Banish thoughts of stag dos and the Red Light district, The Hoxton Amsterdam has put the Dutch capital back on everyone’s radar – for all the right reasons. Perfectly located in Herengracht, part of the central canal district means you’re part of the Nine Streets. For those not familiar – this is where you want to be – nine insta-perfect streets of shops, cafes, bars, galleries, part of the Unesco Heritage listed Amsterdam Canal Belt. Location, location, location!

The Vibe

If you’ve been to the Shoreditch and Holborn hotels you may think you know the drill: laptop tapping by day, cocktails by night– and yes, The Hoxton, Amsterdam has all of that – but here it feel’s more luxe. High restored monumental ceilings, canal views, a spiral staircase and plush velvet sofas – all done by local Interior design duo Nicemakers, inspired by the building’s history as home to the Mayor of Amsterdam in the 17th century. However, in saying that, it’s still The Hoxton, meaning expect the trendy footfall, buzzing bar vibes (upstairs and down) and keep your ear to the ground for parties held in the ‘Apartment’ (Vice was throwing one when we were there).

Highlights

Apart from the location, decor and buzzing bar, it’s the rooms that got us. 111 rooms spread, in 3 different categories (shoebox, roomy and spacious), spread over three floors. All stylish, modern but classic. Tick, tick and tick.

Top Tip

If you’re after a ‘roomy’ room, but with added trimmings, email and request the Monumental room (it can’t be booked, on request you’ll be entered into a lottery). Restored fully to its 17th century glory to protect its listed status – expect a grand room with your own private entrance in and out of the building. Dam chic.
