Rose Bakery

Image

Maybe it's the fault of Fashion Week but this weekend we're a bit over poncey, grown-up restaurants and are more in the mood for cosy little laidback cafes, preferably in some achingly cool location, serving exceptional, unpretentious ready-made morsels, with no waiting for forty minutes between courses.

The Rose Bakery fits the bill perfectly. Perched on top of that shrine to style Dover Street Market, it's every over-tired fashionista's dream. Thanks to its founder Rose Carrarini, it has a decidedly chic European edge (the original Bakery is in Paris and Rose also started Villandry) and serves the kind of things you can pick at with a fork at any time of day. There are steamed or roast vegetable salads, for instance, and devil-may-care quiche lorraine and brownies for those who don't work in fashion

And for those not sick of the sight of a nice bit of schmutter you can have a leisurely stroll around the artfully arranged Comme, Lutz and Alaia after lunch. A gentle way to wean yourself off fashion until next season.
