Escape Bar & Art
If the idea of rubbing shoulders with Kate Moss and Dennis Hopper whilst admiring the lucidity of Gursky and lunching at Frieze's Le Caprice doesn't appeal, but you fancy treading a less worn arty path towards filling your stomach this weekend, you could do worse than head south to Escape Bar & Art.
There are plenty of cafes and bars around that attempt to liven up their walls up by featuring 'art' (often by the owner or the owner's friends) but Escape does it properly. This unpretentious cafe/bar/gallery features often first-rate work by local and international artists - from BP Portrait Award nominees to Brazilian painters, the website gives you a good sneak preview as to what's on show - that is all available to buy, mostly at a price that will leave you change for a slice of carrot cake and a coffee.
Go during the day and snack on roasted red pepper bruschetta, or for drinks in the evening - try The Local; Svensk Branvin vodka over white peach, lime and crushed ice with a Southern Comfort float - and ruminate on how you might just become the next Charles Saatchi.
