The Food Hall

Image

Who doesn't love a good place for brunch? And unless you're in that white table cloth, silver platters mood, the cosier and more relaxed the place the better.

Which is why we love the ramshackle appeal of the Food Hall in Hackney. A predominantly organic grocer/deli it stocks a colourful array of fruit and veg, a bevvy of epicurean goodies and an excellent selection of cheeses stored in their own specially cooled room (you can even order your rare breed Copus turkey for Christmas - as long as you do it by tomorrow!), but there are also tables at the back where you can indulge in one of their homely lunchtime dishes or a selection of breakfasty items at the weekend.

The sausage and bacon is from the Ginger Pig, the perfectly brewed coffee is Monmouth and the OJ is freshly-squeezed so you know you're being looked after. And if you've still got room try the banana bread or any of the yummy homemade cakes on offer - just be sure to take some of the handmade rum truffles home.

For all its higgledy-pigglediness it's not cheap but it's well worth a week of tea and toast.
