The Lawn

On-fire Oliver Peyton has just opened this, his second new restaurant in the last month, and it promises to be one of the most sophisticated al fresco hot spots of the summer.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, The Lawn is nestled within the leafy grandeur of the Fulham Palace estate so whether you choose to eat in the elegant former bishop's drawing room or in the green and pleasant gardens outside is up to you.

Either way there are English delights like boiled egg and soldiers, salad of fresh peas, pea shoots and ham hock or garlic and thyme marinated spatchcock spring chicken with watercress and Jersey Royals to be had. There is also an elaborate state-of-the-art barbecue and ice cream bar due to be installed once the summer really begins to kick off - we can only hope.

Until then, make the most of every random ray, don a boater, take Pimms on the, er, lawn and wait for Mr Peyton to open his next premises.

ALSO IN EAT & DRINK

  • Weekend Eats: Ida

I can't help wondering whether there would be less street crime if every neighbourhood had its own Ida.

  • Weekend Eats: Princess Victoria

Shepherd's Bush is not blessed with a multitude of fine eating places so it was a canny move of former Sommelier of the Year Matt Wilkin to refurbish the faded gin house the Princess Victoria and turn it into an above average gastro-tavern.

  • Weekend Eats: The Garrison

The owners of The Garrison must have been listening in when I described my perfect pub as it's as close as darn it.

  • Weekend Eats: The Connaught

We love it when one of London's grand-dame hotels has a refurb and the Connaught, which is now part of the Maybourne Group (which also owns Claridges and the Berkeley), is no exception.

  • Weekend Eats: The Beehive

When Claudio Pulze was revamping one of London's oldest pubs, the Beehive, Marylebone locals made sure they had their say: the carpet could go but they didn't want it changed too much and they would appreciate it if he could keep the flowers outside looking fresh to brighten the place up. The accommodating restaurateur obliged.
