Le Bouchon Breton

It's easy to get jaded about dining out; spending increasingly silly amounts of cash on food and surroundings that are either forgettable or over-fussy.
There's nothing like a decent French brasserie, however, to restore some hope and remind you what eating out is really all about, so whether you're tightening your Primark belt or living dangerously you could do worse than head to the newly opened Le Bouchon Breton .
Sister restaurant to Le Bouchon Bourdelais in Battersea, and part owned by Michel Roux Jr, Breton is in the rather more soignee Spitalfields, and is an altogether more fancy affair than it's South West London relation.
An impressively large pewter champagne and seafood bar, sproingy banquettes and authentic 'belle epoque' detailing all come together very pleasingly under a pitched iron and glass roof, but if that's not enough for you you can always take to the terrace and people-watch in the market below.
Either way you won't be disappointed by the food, courtesy of Nicolas Laridan, former head chef at Le Gavroche. Choose from soupe de poissons and chateaubriand or a plate of les crustaces and a crisp glass of something from the wine list, nicely put together by Francois Bertrand (also an old Gavrochian).
You should leave feeling thoroughly content whether you spend a fiver or fifty quid, and if you don't you need to stay in more.
