Brasserie Max
The Covent Garden hotel, part of Tim and Kit Kemp's eclectically stylish Firmdale group, is a little oasis of old world charm and well-upholstered comfort – a particular find in an area not known for its luxey vibe.
Its restaurant, Brasserie Max, has just been spruced up so it's now bigger and better, with a long pewter bar, a couple of private dining rooms and a cosy drinks area.
I, personally, am looking forward to trying the new three course set menu – featuring things like crispy squid, asparagus and coriander salad, wild mushroom, spinach and taleggio risotto with truffle salsa, and Valrohna chocolate brownie with honeycomb ice cream– a flavoursome snip at £19.95.
Or if you fancy a spot of afternoon tea, make the most of the wide range of loose-leaf infusions on offer to accompany your champagne rhubarb tartlets and scones with homemade jam and clotted cream
A consistently reliable classic just got that bit more polished. And look out for Firmdale's first Stateside hotel, Crosby Street, due to open in NYC in September.
Nothing like a home from home.
