Review: Boutique Chic Collection
Retro fun

Paying tribute to the graphic design and fashion styles of the 1950s, 'Boutique Chic' is a compilation dedicated to dressed-up French grooves.

It's over-stylised fun that basks in a similarly brash retro-modern sauciness of the kind Kid Loco indulged in the late '90s. It has already found favour with DJs such as Andy Smith and Karminsky Experience.

Wistfully harking back to an era where Jacques Tati was up to no good, its loungey beats and kitsch samples lend it the feel of a soundtrack to holidays Benny Hill might have taken in France. Some of the music here was even banned by iTunes because of such blatant cheek.

Numerous artists feature such as Black Market Audio and Grand David and the aforementioned Kid Loco with mixed results. Yet Georges Deligny and cohorts manage to pull off an intriguing musical romp which could turn heads this season.
