Fingers in Pies
Cash in

Ask anyone in London, and that's what they'll tell you. It's all about the pies. Write the book, shoot the movie, sell the merchandising rights.

Once upon a time, Fabric used to be a club in EC1. Simple. And then in 2001 they went and dropped a mix album off the back of their premier night. Fast-forward a mere six years and FabricLive37 is due out next month.

Of course, Fabric were neither the first, nor the biggest to cash in. Ibiza's Café del Mar opened its doors back in 1980, with a CD release in '94, and they're still churning them out. And don't even get me started on Ministry's James Palumbo.

But it's not just the big boys. Back in June, David Piper released a Rakehell's Revels compilation CD of rare retro favourites, named after his 1920s-themed night at Café Royal. And favourite DJ-duo of the retro-scene everywhere from Rakehell's to BGWMC, the beautiful Broken Hearts have just released their first single: a catchy retro-pop pairing produced by Whitey.

With the crowned prince of the nu-rave scene, Richard Mortimer, trumping this year's Fashion Week with his Boombox Book, how long can it be before the Best of Boombox CD series starts?

Black Cat/Blanco by The Broken Hearts and Rakehell's Revels are available from Amazon.co.uk
The Boombox Book is available from M.A.C.
