So, after IMS and openings late May, it’s safe to say the island is already feeling BUSY! And buzzzzy! New parties, new spots, with the same beaches and locales that we love. It’s going to be a good one. Vamos! Ibiza 2016, we’re so glad you’re hereeeeeeee!

NEW TINGS

NEW! NEW! NEW! NEW! NEW! NEW!

As with every year, there are a lot of new things to check out this season, but three we’re very excited about are: Ibiza Delivers’ new water taxi, new member’s agroturismo La Granja, and the duplex apartments at new five star OD Talamanca.

SUMMER SPOT

If you want us this summer, you’ll find us here

Speaking of things we’re excited about, it was instant love when we visited Hostal La Torre during IMS. A new hotspot from the Mambo family, this recently updated hotel is tucked away (so you truly feel like you’re away) on the western side of the island and offers one of, if not the best sunset view. Get there early and nab a table so you can stay late. And as you’d expect from the Mambo family, the food is great, the tunes are superb, and the hospitality is seriously warm. Just make sure you drive, have a driver, or give yourself enough time to order a taxi as you’ll need a ride out.

#IBZ16JetCard

Our new favourite way to travel

Flying to Ibiza can be the only real drag about the trip. If you miss a BA flight, chances are you’ll be on the rave bus (sleazy or Ryanair), leaving you disgruntled before you even get there. If you get there that is. UJ was lucky enough (thanks, @michaelhennegan) to travel with Jet Card, a new partnership with the Modern Concierge and Air Partner, to Ibiza for openings. High rollers are using it for luxe, day-out lunches – going to and fro in one day – which is a little steep, but they will be selling off last minute seats throughout the summer for £500 and less (#GetJetGo), which is a deal. Sign. Us. Up.

Interested? For more information on the service call 0207 060 1060. It’s £250 to register; see example availability here

IMS ROUND UP

It’s the most wonderful time of the year

We love IMS, oh yes we do. After finishing what was our 7th IMS (out of 9 total – we’re old timers), we’ve come back inspired as ever. What did we learn? Erick Morillo may have had a rough ride in recent years, but if his Space opening is anything to go by, he’s back on track and better than ever. Pet Shop Boys are the best, and we really mean the best. Sharp, down to earth, funny, modest (so modest), and extremely good company; it’s not often UJ falls so hard, but we definitely did with those two. Soundbites we loved from them? They love a Sunday afternoon disco at Berghain (YES!), their favourite club is DC10 (YES!), and the first time they went to Ibiza they thought ‘the island is nice, but it isn’t any good for clubbing’… because they got to the club at 11pm!

IMS: RICHIE AND PEPE

Sake and goodbye

Other IMS highlights included pool-side industry talks, Richie’s ENTER.Sake in a beautiful mini glass jar with peel lid (trend!), and everything about Pepe Rosello, who turns 80 this year and, as you’re likely aware, has to give back Space. It’s sad times, but his Legends dinner (thanks Ballantine’s) was memorable, and after watching him enthusiastically in the DJ booth at 3am for the openings, it’s safe to say he’s going out with a BANG! Mark Oct 2 on your calendar – the closing of Space is a Raver Public Holiday. See you there!

PARADISE OPENING TONIGHT

Jamie’s back with ‘Virtual Trip’!

We love this night. It’s stylish, it’s at DC10, and you always hear something new. If you missed openings, we say hop a flight tonight and make it to this one. You won’t regret it!

PETE TALKS

Insight from the man who knows!

By now you know we love Pete Tong. And after a brief chat with him on the jet (yup!), we came away with some great insight. Highlights include his prediction that this is going to be Black Coffee’s summer and that Guy’s party Rumors at its new Destino location will go from strength to strength (we agree!). He also talked about how the north – which ‘used to feel so far’ – is fast becoming the new hotspot, especially with the news that André Balazs (of Chateau Marmont, the Chiltern, etc.) is currently building a hotel there….

PETE TALKS MORE

Formentera, starting out and summer 2016

Pete also shared his love for Formentera (‘I always say get out on the water, get out of town, get off the island and look at it from the sea – any sea experience is great.’), his memories of the old days (‘I think it’s hard to think back, it didn’t feel like it at the time, but looking back on it, everything was so groundbreaking’), the days of the Manumission Hotel and starting out (‘the deal was, we begged to play on the basis that we’d bring our friends! We lasted about 30 minutes at Amnesia and then got kicked off’). He spoke of the new IMS initiative in Malta, which is all about education, and a few things he’s looking forward to this summer: ‘playing with Solomun for the third time, definitely’, his dates at Ushuaïa for the ANTS party, and enjoying his days in Ibiza.

We say, join us at his Solomun + 1 party and listen to his new Sound of Ibiza mixes on his BBC R1 show with select guests. Thanks Pete! Big love.

Pete Tong plays with Solomun at Pacha on 24 July, 2016

TOP TIP

Take this number down

As we already said, this summer already feels busy in Ibiza, and there seems to be no taxis. Or not enough for everyone. So if you don’t fancy queuing at a taxi stand, want to get out or into a hard-to-find destination (the Cocoon after party!), or just want to get home period, get a driver. It’s time. And Simon Bushell and his crew from World Entourage are the best.

TREND WATCH

Kimono Crusaders

So, last summer it was all about the all black uniform, everywhere – all black, all the time: it was tech chic as we (claim to have) coined it! This summer, we’re excited about kimonos. Kimonos over ‘kinis, kimonos to the disco, kimonos to the supermercado. We’re lovin it.

BODY CAMP

Eat. Sleep. Workout. Repeat.

By now you know that Ibiza is also all about the wellbeing. And this summer’s newest luxe retreat is The Body Camp.

RUMOUR HAS IT

André’s new hotel

So, as we said, we were first tipped off by Pete Tong about the new André Balazs property in Portinax. We then happened to stumble upon the supposed property he’s bought while on a 20K hike with The Body Camp (or so our guide said). Yes! What we know- this is – again, supposedly – the property that he will be turning (planning permission pending) into a 7 star hotel. What we saw- an abandoned old hotel that was never finished in one of the best coves in Ibiza. This is going to be a serious gem. Stay tuned….
