How every year does it go from IMS (May), to thinking about closings (October)? And we’re here again. Just as it feels like the summer is starting, we’re already thinking about the Bank Holiday and beyond….so let’s stop for a minute. It’s only mid August. A busy time, but also GREAT time to be in Ibiza. You’re never worried if it’s going to be sunny (it is, apart from today), or who’s playing on the island (everyone). These are hot summer days, and long balmy nights. So, that’s it from us; if you’re an Ibiza frequent flyer, we hope the below inspires you to try some new haunts, and if you’ve never been, come join us. See you on the dancefloor.

xx Team UJ

Los Enamorados Ibiza

When we walked by this hotel during a day out to Portinatx during The Body Camp, we thought, we like the look of this. Upon further inspection? A great cocktail list, a restaurant hanging over the water on the cove, and a chic terrace with sunbeds… this was definitely our kind of spot. This new 9-bed hotel – refurbed this year – is a good ‘un if you want to truly feel like you’re away. There’s a vintage Ibiza vibe here, which is hard to come by these days, but the cocktail menu and décor feel very au courant.

Ibiza Delivers Boat

There’s nothing like a boat day to Formentera – simply the best! But sometimes, it can be a steep ride to fund if there are only a couple of you. Also, if you have a late one and sleep through the pre-arranged departure time, that hurts too. So when we heard about Ibiza Delivers’ new water taxi, offering reasonable taxi transfers to and from Formentera, our ears perked up. Yes, there are others (or rather, we know of hot fish), but with cold towels and drinks from the bar, this one looks like the luxe way to cross.

Prices start from €100 +21% IVA per person (minimum charge is 4 people) return from
Ibiza Town- Formentera (Marina or Illetes)

Find this bar

When we saw this bar pop up on the Mambros instagram with the caption: ‘That time we found a magical beach hut in #Formentera that people keep asking us where to find it #ourvibe’, we had to know where it was, as it looks very our vibe too! Now, we could ask them, but wondered, do any of you know where it is? If so, please write in! ujibiza@urbanjunkies.com. Let’s find this bar! Thank you in advance.

Party Place- Destino

August dates to know

So, partying by a pool is the good life. Partying by a pool while listening to Luciano or Solomun is the best life. So if you’re on the White Isle for their upcoming dates, make sure you go. It gets BUSY though, so get a table, get there early, or (somehow) get ye self in the booth.

Solomun + LIVE, August 11 and 25, 17:00- 23:30
Luciano and Friends at Destino, August 18, 16:00- 23:30

Monday Madness

Circoloco and Cocoon

There’s something special about knowing it’s a school night and you’re out. And not just out, but DC10 and Cocoon out. If you’re even thinking about leaving the White Isle on a Monday, let us save you the flight change fee, and just book the return for Tuesday or Wednesday instead. Circoloco may only announce their lineups a week in advance, but it’s always a goodie; last Monday saw Seth, The Martinez Brothers, Damian and Art Department on the decks, to name a few. As for Cocoon, the IMS Cocoon afters was one of our favourite parties, and the recent Ricardo Villalobos/Sven/Seth/Craig Richards sarnie was the sound of dreams. Two upcoming Cocoon dates to mark down: August 15th for Richie Hawtin and August 29th for Raresh. MONDAY FUNDAY!

New From the Guide

Coricancha by Blue Marlin

If you’ve been to Ibiza, you’ve likely had a flight delay. And we’ve said it before, but the airport bar/restaurant selection leaves a lot to be desired. Probably with this in mind, the Blue Marlin Group have just launched a new Nikkei restaurant close to the airport. It might not have the waterfront views of Blue Marlin, but as it’s fresh fare (Japanese Peruvian) and close to the airport, this is very, very good news. We haven’t been (yet), but the house style building looks nice (across from DC10) and it sure beats Burger King.

Cala D’en Serra

Every year in Ibiza there’s a new party that people are talking about, and this year it’s definitely WooMoon at Cova Santa. Starting from 6PM, they say: Love! Dance! Smile! We say: we hear it’s a day-to-night party with a combination of music, art, and healthy bites, deep in the heart of San José, in a venue that was built around an ancient cave. We’ve seen Insta pics coming in of Cirque-like dancers swinging from the sky, and good beats. Something different, and again, we’re hearing good things!

REFURB

S’Estanyol turns into Cala Bonita

One of our favourite spots on the island, PK2 at S’Estanyol has been refurbed and is now Cala Bonita. Although this immediately made us feel a bit teary – this is a true #UJloves rustic gem – the actual refurb is more of a subtle update than anything drastic, phew. There are daybeds that can be booked, and service on the beach. The menu wasn’t that extensive, but the drinks list was good, and the location is still great. Oh, and they still have the rock on the side of the road – this time, though, it says Cala Bonita. Eyes peeled.

Reset, Breathing Retreat

If you feel you need a little reset, the Ibiza North Shore retreat could be a good place to start. Taking place from October 15-22 in the luxe Can Zamas villa, there’ll be the usual yoga and meditation and top tier healthy chef, with hiking, kayaking and star gazing (yes), and also transformational breath® with the renowned breath guru, Alan Dolan. There are only 8 places, and you have daily massages by your own dedicated therapist. Plus, ‘snacks’ are unlimited, so this is not a starve-cation. Olé!

Boris has a new restaurant – Finca by Ibiza Food Studio

It’s been a fast ride for Boris. Launching Taller Sa Penya (which is now called Ibiza Food Studio) last year to great success, he’s recently collaborated with La Granja Ibiza on Mondays with the joint concept, Fine Farm Food, and just last week, he launched a new restaurant called Finca by Ibiza Food Studio. Set in a villa in the hills of San Lorenzo, all we know is: things will be served family style and they’ll be continuing with their brilliant set menus à la their studio in Sa Penya. They’ll be serving brunch and lunch by the pool, and dinner under the stars. Sounds good to us.

To reserve a place at Ibiza Food Studio (Sa Penya) or Finca by Ibiza Food Studio (the new villa location) please call Leah 0034 6227 849 14 or email leah@ibizafoodstudio.com

We like to Brunch

Bulldog and Pikes

We love a good brunch. And although Pikes is known for their Sunday roasts, we’re fans of their new Wednesday brunch menu, with Bulldog Gin. Highlights include Bulldog Gin-infused smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, and scrambled tofu with kale, peppers and sautéed potatoes. Bulldog are making waves on the island this summer. With an Ibiza Icons book highlighting – you’ve got it – people who’ve made a difference on the island (names include Dawn and Andy from Manumission/Ibiza Rocks, Sid Shanti, Javier Anadon and Carl Cox), a brunch menu at Pikes, and activity around the island, they’re coming in strong! As bulldogs do (sorry). Their launch party last week saw Jon Sa Trinxa on the decks, Milos Zica from Employees Only behind the bar, Bip Ling bipping around, Roberto from El Chiringuito serving oysters and a guy with ants on his pants commandeering the dance floor, all at a mystery 5 star villa location. Cocktail highlights over the three-day launch day festivities include the Red Snapper (Bulldog Bloody Mary), Ibiza Sunset (Bulldog with Aperol and grapefruit) and a classic Bulldog and Tonic, served with strawberries and mint, grapefruit and lemon, or lemon and lavender.

Bulldog Brunch is served at Pikes every Wednesday from 11AM-7PM. If you come for the brunch, you can have a Bulldog Gin & Tonic on the house for ‘dessert’
