Wine Wars
Crumbling

You know that hoary old conundrum: "If you had to give up cheese or chocolate forever, what would it be?"

Yawn, easy: I'd keep the cheese. Here at UJ Towers a far more finely balanced debate rages: if you had to drink one thing for the rest of your life, would it be wine, beer, or cocktails?

Most days, wine wins out for its sheer merry-making, all inclusive, sip-tastic qualities. But as soon as that's acknowledged, a far greater debate ensues: my flirty Fleuries and vivacious Viogniers versus the hardnosed editor's brutish Barolos and chewy Clarets.

I tell you, sometimes - after a few bottles research to decide the issue - it gets so heated you'd imagine Grace Jones had mineswept Peter Cook's last sip.

If you share our passion, but feel you lack the knowledge to move decisively beyond Blossom Hill (truly the devil's brew), then help is at hand.

One of the country's top cookery schools has launched the Wine Course in a Box, and it sounds like a novel way to get lively. It contains such ephemera as wine aroma phials, blotting strips, and a wine wheel - but far more importantly - six bottles of quality vino with tasting notes. A boozy 'do' disguised as education - get in, my son!
