Fun and Games
ake a chance on Tom

In Londoners' constant pursuit of ways to take themselves back to their childhoods a new phenomenon is emerging.

Forget cringey burlesque and stodgy comfort foods, the Games Room stands tall and proud on the leisure stage these days.

Its popularity must surely be due in part to those of us of a certain age having watched Big during our nascent years and developed a fetish surrounding our own personal gleaming penthouse filled with toys rather than a Play-Doh saddled playroom and space hopper if we were lucky.

Previously it was mainly members' bars and dives in the East End that put out these kinds of entertainments - Aspinalls and newish venture Eight are certainly catering for the boys' toys market - but they're now making themselves increasingly felt on the style stage.

Word reaches Urban Junkies that Tom Aikens' much-anticipated new three-storey venture will provide a games room for all those ADD adults for whom playing in the traditional sense seems far more appealing than the bling sense of yesteryear...

So this may not be the New New Big Thing, but sure beats darts.
