Ecologically Challenged
Big Issue trainer

Modern day living - it's such a minefield. Take environmental issues for instance; even when we think we are doing our bit there's a constant stream of reports saying we are doing more harm than good.

We may buy organic, separate our trash, and take our tired wardrobes down to the charity shop, but between contaminated waste issues, rogue recycling firms and most of our collected paper and plastics being shipped out to China on a weekly basis, a major headache starts to set in.

So making the right choice is, by no means, easy. Still, little steps in the right direction. You could do worse than take those steps in a pair of Worn Again trainers. Not only do they look unique but are made from the likes of old prison blankets, ex-military parachutes and, for a limited edition pair in celebration of The Big Issue's 15th anniversary, firemen's uniforms. Talk about shoes loaded with character.

While we are on the subject of socially conscious apparel you can now buy Edun One t-shirts - a collaboration between Edun and One where a quarter of funds raised goes straight to the Apparel Lesotho Alliance to fight Aids.

As for recycling, it may not be perfect, but for now, let's just stick to the programme. And if you need to replace your orange bag with something slicker, help is at hand with Home Recycling's bin range. Yes, they might be made of plastic but at least they are not being shipped out to China every week.
