Kill Two Birds With One Stone
An Indian empress by Banksy

Let me guess. You've been meaning to try The Gun. For ages. Especially their outdoor Portuguese grill - that sounds good.

But Docklands. Where is it, again? Is there a tube? You also know that the outer reaches of Hackney are supposedly on the rise - all those great new galleries, interesting shops and new restaurants - but it can be hard to get off the sofa. We're with you.

But in the spirit of the New Year (this is the last you'll hear of resolutions, promise), we're thinking a day out trip to The Empress of India is in order. Brought to us by Ed & Tom Martin of The Gun acclaim, The Empress of India has been serving up British fare for a while now. If you have yet to find your Sunday roast spot, and are willing to veer further than your local, this could be just the place.

Here you'll find interesting birds, hand-painted wallpaper, a great wine list, and we hear there's a killer afternoon tea coming soon. If nothing else, at least you can finally say you've done Hackney and an Ed & Tom Martin. Tick. Tick.

The Empress of India

Open Mon-Saturday 8am-11pm, Sunday 9am-10.30pm
