Summer in the city. It always sounds better than it is. The thing about London - it isn't made for heat.

You've haven't really experienced our fair city until you've fainted on the tube. The stench of sweat alone is enough to make the strongest of us queasy. The dust, the pale, flabby stomachs exposed to the elements, the faulty office air conditioner that drips: ah, those heady days of summer.

Nope, some places really are meant to be grey and dreary. If you can't get out of the country for the next few months, it might be a good idea to try and blag a membership to Shoreditch House. The new venture from entrepreneur Nick Jones sounds like a bit of a departure from the original Soho House.

We here in London were all a little pissy when we found out the NY establishment got a pool, so imagine our delight that Shoreditch House has its own rooftop pool. Opening in June, the venue has more of a country club vibe than its sister club in Soho.

Featuring a Cowshed Spa, gym, sauna, bowling alley, games room as well as the Biscuit Tin - an area for members children - the club has been designed by Tom Dixon and is set to sex up the T building. Membership runs a little steep at £700 for just Shoreditch House, but for £900 you can gain access to all the Houses. With plans for more Houses in Miami, Istanbul, Paris and Los Angeles - it could be well worth the money.

Warn the cabana boys: we're on our way.

Shoreditch House - officially opens Monday 25 June.
