Ship Ahoy
Set sail

My flatmate and I have an unhealthy obsession with Agatha Christie murder mysteries - those old Poirot and Miss Marple telly specials. My flatmate, because she loves a good murder; me, because I'm quite sure I was born sixty years too late.

I would have loved to live in the soigne 30s, swanning around in silk oriental robes with cigarette holders, dramatically fainting whenever a gentleman said anything mildly inappropriate. And, traveling was so much more glamorous - especially by ship - with porters and proper steamer trunks.

I'm not the only one it seems. Cruising, especially on old-fashioned wood-paneled ships, is the new way to holiday. "Designer" and trustafarian Dan Macmillan is rumoured to be taking his summer hols on a 1930s era ship. With a murder mystery theme. Bless.

A bit closer to home is the Chivas Regal Discover Poker night tonight, held on board the Silver Sturgeon cruise liner, In keeping with the flush theme, there is complimentary drinks, canapés, live music, magic shows as well as entertainment from too2much's Kitty and Nick, who played at Hugh Hefner's 80th birthday party.

Plus, the opportunity to learn a few poker tricks. And that really floats our boat.

Discover Poker night - Wed July 18
