Danny Sangra: The Tomb of Esteban Dorado
Central St. Martin's graduate Danny Sangra is one of those figures on the illustrative scene who manage to be at once famous and yet wholly unknown. If you're not in the loop, it's highly unlikely that you will have ever heard of him, despite numerous exhibitions and accolades. However, if said graphic/illustrative scene is rather more your preferred stomping ground, then Sangra's characteristic swirling line work and complex comic-style collages are recognizable the world over. His current installation in the modest Exhibit space consists of a kaleidoscope pseudo-comic about an adventurer trapped in a tomb of gold. The panels, painted onto the walls swirl around you like his graphics themselves, as asides and monologues emerge between the lines and directions bleed into one another. As ever, Danny Sangra is an artist to keep an eye on.

Matthew Barney
Since the conception of his Drawing Resistance series in 1987, Matthew Barney - ex-American footballer, ex-Calvin Klein model, and partner to the delightfully individual Björk - has restrained, suspended, and pushed himself to various levels of intensity. It is, to Barney's mind, only through this vital process of resistance that development and creativity may emerge. Despite being one of the most celebrated American artists of his generation, this is his first major UK show, which centres on the sculptural cycle tied to the £6 million epic, Drawing Restraint 9: a surreal 2 hour long love story in which he stars alongside Björk on a Japanese whaling ship, the pair eventually sprouting blow holes in their necks, metamorphosing into whales and diving off into the ocean. Sorry to spoil the ending for you there. Like his partner, and the artist himself, Barney's work is undeniably beautiful, but more than a little odd. Rarely a bad thing when it comes to art.
