Karate Boots, the monthly party organised by The Debutants, is gaining steam as a "must visit" event on the evening calendar. While other nights like Wrong and Nag Nag Nag may have started the trend for naff nights, Karate Boots takes it a step further, emphasising a classic suburban rock element among the poptastic 80s beats.

The result. Air guitar solo from the most unlikely people.

Held in the slightly dingy bar below The Phoenix Pub, the night feels not unlike an impromptu house party, especially because of the mixed clientele. The event attracts a relaxed, but slightly strange, milieu of suited City boys, office girls, off-duty bartenders and up-and-coming fashion stars, all willing to make a fool of themselves in the name of fun. Rising London catwalk star Richard Nichol was recently spotted singing along to a-ha's "Take On Me".

What's more, The Debutants feature a new entertainer to amuse the dancers mid-sweat. Past talents have included a team of burlesque strippers, tap dancers, and a violinist who wowed the crowds with her version of Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child of Mine".

Rock on, man.
