Addict by Diesel is a showcase of new talent from the arts, design and fashion worlds

Long before you hear their music, it is abundantly clear that the Mau-Maus are poised for greatness.

The six-strong unit - whose sound ranges from chunky R&B to hip-hop, cut-up classical, and spiky alt-rock - has that vital element that makes up a successful band: stage presence. The band reeks rock star glory even when off duty.

"It's early days yet, but I'm a perfectionist so it's a question of getting all the things right," explains lead singer Peter de Havilland. A former Storm model, de Havilland's YSL-styled 70s white lounge suit and flowing Rococco locks mask a bluestocking schooling and classical music education.

With such a character in the lead, it would seem difficult for the rest of the band to compete. But part of the appeal is the wide range of styles and sounds within the band. Speaking to the group - made up of Spreader (Bass), Larry (Background Vocals), Peter De Havilland (Vocals), James (Background Vocals), Patrice (Drums), Jerry (Guitar) - it becomes apparent that this is not your average tossers who set up a basement band to pull girls, but group of individuals who are serious about music.

And it shows.
