Phillip Start and his rockstar wife, Brix Smith-Start conceived the original Start boutique at 59 Rivington Street, 2 1/2 years ago, and now they seem to be taking over the whole street.

With a mission to surf the whole Hoxton "fashion meets rock and roll" zeitgeist, they succeeded, with No. 59 now dedicated solely to menswear, currently boasting a bespoke tailoring service. Meanwhile ex 'The Fall' guitarist, Brix has got her own retail boudoir at No. 42, selling Rick Owens, Miu Miu and Commes des Garçons, along with a carefully edited selection of premier denim.

Although they've always stocked accessories, they now get their very own shop next door at No. 44. Designed with a medical theme, the store will be stocking an impressive selection of jewellery, bags, belts, hats and scarves as well as make up, skincare and perfume, which means you may never need to brave Selfridges again.

And speaking of department stores, at this rate of expansion, it will be interesting to see where Start end up.
