Weekend Guide
---

---

It's been a manic two weeks (though it's oddly quiet around UJ HQ), and we're sad to see the back of the Olympics (bring on the Paralympics!). If you haven't already got plans for a London 2012 blowout (or Closing Ceremony tickets), then cast your eyes over our mix of weekend picks: eating burgers, partying à la Stateside and winding down with a new film. PS: UJ is going on holiday for two weeks, so keep up to date with our agenda and twitter for events. Have fun, and see you on the other side.

This Weekend’s Picks

• FRI Street Kitchen • SAT Club Bud at Roundhouse
• SUN Honest Burgers Soho

FRIDAY

SHOP:
Pringle Pop Up
  EAT:
Street Kitchen

You should probably start stocking up on autumn knits now (RIP summer). Pringle of Scotland have just set up shop on South Molton Street until December. Statement cashmeres and woollens aplenty (and argyle pattern socks, of course) will have you sorted for this confused weather. We're after this.   If you haven't played ping pong at The Book Club's Basecamp yet, there's now another reason to head east. Street Kitchen have set up their sexy airstream across the road – and this is the last week! The bistro boxes are always a hit, but it's the SK burger we've got our eye on. Forget Heinz and plastic cheese, and expect crispy chicken with kohlrabi coleslaw and beef with smoked grain mustard mayo and pickled red onions.

PHOTOGRAPHY

A Holiday with Martin Parr

Any budding photographer will appreciate the iconic, extraordinarily British style of Magnum photographer Martin Parr's work (we love all his shots from Japan). Now, he's holding classes in Folkestone where he'll teach novices how to capture the clichés and jaded glitz of his favourite seaside town.

A Holiday with Martin Parr
August 31 – September 2, £750 for a shared room including meals

Staying true to form, there'll also be classic cocktails like the Bayon Barbeque and New Orleans Julep, as well as nibbles including Gumbo and Jambalaya. You'll find us at the absinthe bar.   Brazil at Somerset House, Jamaica on Brick Lane and now the best of US party people at the Roundhouse. ANOTHER LONDON

International photographers and city life 1930-1980

Sponsored Listing

While the focus is firmly on London, Tate Britain explores the capital through the eyes of some of the biggest names in international photography. London was a foreign city to these artists, a place they either visited briefly or settled in permanently, so they recorded and represented it in their own distinctive ways. A rare opportunity to see striking images from renowned photographers including Bill Brandt, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, Dora Maar, Irving Penn and many more.

Another London, Tate Britain, July 27 – September 16

CONVERSE REPRESENT

Party Photos

Nine gigs, 45 artists… it's been fun. The series of Converse Represent live gigs at the 100 Club is nearly over. We jumped along to Blur, felt nostalgic with Paul Weller and got down to SBTRKT and Santigold. And those of you who got your hands on Nas tickets for this Friday's gig… enjoy!

SUNDAY

EAT:
Honest Burgers Soho
  FILM:
Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry

We love the Brixton original, so we're drooling at the fact that Honest Burgers have moved to our hood (just around the corner from DST). Same concept, same menu, just without the trek south. The no reservations trend continues but get in quick before the queues start for classic burgers, rosemary-salt chips and veg fritters.   Ai Weiwei has become something of an icon in recent years, continually pushing the boundaries of art and politics. First-time director Alison Klayman gained unprecedented access to Ai while working as a journalist in China and her detailed portrait of this dissident for the digital age is utterly compelling. Watch in awe.

WEST END TRANSFER

Vieux Carré

We loved it at the King's Head and now it's heading to the West End. Vieux Carré, a revival of Tennessee Williams' autobiographical play, centres on the ramshackle boarding house in which he lived. Fleeing to New Orleans in the 30s, the aspiring writer encountered bizarre, poignant and funny characters, who ultimately became subjects of his work. For a special discount on tickets, enter PREV BOOKERS when booking.

Vieux Carré, The Charing Cross Theatre, August 14 – September 1
Book tickets for just £14 (usually £19.50) when you book using the promotional
