Weekend Guide
---

---

It's that time of year again: when everything starts to wind down before the big C. In our last weekend guide of the year, we've got meat (it would be rude not to), a new cocktail den, modern art, a '90s house birthday party, an edible cinema feel-good film and a party mix. Of course, we can't ignore the impending Crimbo cheer so we've got jumpers and a Christmas market with a twist. Look out for our last newsletter next week before we go on Xmas break. Until then… stay warm.

FRIDAY

EAT:
MEATMISSION
  DRINK:
The Luggage Room

The Americana Movement continues. Yianni Papoutsis is at it again, and this time he's bringing his meat eastside to an old Victorian Christian mission. The menu will include some old favourites plus more wings, more burgers and more "meaty reveleations". The drinks focus here is on pitchers of ice-cold beer. Oh – and you can book. Mission accomplished.   Or… if you'd rather some carefully crafted cocktails, head to Mayfair's latest bar. The Luggage Room – it actually used to be one – celebrates the art of cocktail making (we're seeing a lot of this lately, what with Reverend JW Simpson) in a 1920s-style setting, all leather upholstery and marbles. Expect traditional cups, cobblers, punches, martinis and champagne cocktails. We say go for the classic martini – very high soc.

AGENDA PICK

CafÉ Royal

London's grand institution Café Royal is finally back open for business, after a four-year refurbishment (and a plush pre-launch party: the private Miu Miu club). The building houses the Ten Room brasserie, the iconic Grill Room (Oscar Wilde, Virginia Woolf and George Bernard Shaw's spot), a café (opening in Jan 2013), a spa (opening March 2013), and a 159-room hotel which injects a contemporary aesthetic into the building's old grandeur.

MARKET:
Protein Xmas Market
  FILM:
Edible Cinema:
When Harry Met Sally

You know how it goes at Christmas markets – same crap, different city. But not at Protein's Yuletide Market: here you'll find hot mulled cider from The Boilermaker, absinthe (!) hot choc from Lily Vanilli, plus an array of fun food and gifts from the likes of Bompas and Parr, Dante's Fried Chicken, Elliot's, Gelupo, Monster Supplies and St John. Expect sock-it-to-me apricot hot sauce, mince pie popcorn and edible Xmas cards. And free giftwrapping from Reed+Rader. Merry Crimbo to that.   Edible Cinema is back, and hosted this time in the newly refurbished Electric Cinema. Their choice of film: none other than feel-good classic When Harry Met Sally. As usual, Bombay Sapphire will be laying on the drinks (the Bombay Big Apple cocktail, on this occasion) while, as per usual, each guest will be supplied with a tray of numbered mystery boxes, tailored to specific moments in the film. Wonder what they'll do for the Katz's Delicatessen scene…
