Weekend Guide

There's a lot of King's Cross action this weekend, what with street food (Chinese and Taiwanese, namely) followed by some courtyard, Americana-style film watching – and we're not even talking about Sundance. Other than that, we'll be celebrating with RBMA, getting down to a big bill producer, drinking prosecco on tap and getting in some free coffee. Want out of London? Hong Kong is buzzing.

Expect a NYC-esque party that includes a headline set from Brooklyn rappers Flatbush Zombies, DJ sets from a few of the RBMA kids, plus all-night New York drinks and eats.

FRIDAY

LUNCH:
BAO AT KERB KING'S CROSS
  DINNER:
TOZI

The King's X contingent is spoilt for lunch choice, what with Caravan and Kerb (formerly Eat Street) representing. This weekend Bao London is at Kerb King's X. No one does a pork bun quite like Bao – think slow braised shredded pork, home pickles, peanut powder and coriander in a milky white bun. Also check out the inKERBator, a space dedicated to learning street-food startups. This week it's Mei Mei's Street Cart, which serves Beijing's latest fast food, the Jian Bang (a Chinese pancake).   If you thought Russell Norman had the monopoly on Venetian cuisine you were wrong. The latest Venetian eatery to hit London has good creds – the chef behind it is ex-Cecconi's – and a wholesome menu, its main focus being cicchetti. Dine on fritto misto with soft shell crab, duck ragu gnocchi, wood oven-baked pizzettes or grilled swordfish before sampling their barrel-aged Negroni. Alternatively, perch at the casual bar for some burrata and wild boar salami with Aperol Spritzers. The best bit? Prosecco on tap.

The line up includes Soulwax, Modestep, Bastille, Rodigan, Regina Spektor and Hadouken to name just a few, and on top of that there'll be paint fights, dance-off battles, gifting ceremonies, wood fire hot tubs, theatre and flowing Bloody Marys, courtesy of the Soul Fire Restaurant (not your usual festival food). INTERNATIONAL PICK

Hong Kong

Hong Kong's hedonistic heyday continues. Feeding the luxury front is Lanvin's latest flagship – expect the usual luxe staples but with added indulgences. In keeping with the French invasion, Kitsuné is popping up at the infamous Kee Club for a one-night-only Parisian bash on Friday. If culture is what you're after, book now for Art Basel Hong Kong in May, set to show off the arty side of Southeast Asia, with over half of the participating galleries hailing from the Asia-Pacific region. Finally, rest your head (or continue the afterparty) at LKF Hotel, the stomping ground for social butterflies – think amenities like a nightclub, rooftop bar and even a humble two-Michelin starred restaurant. Hong Kong, here we come!

FILM:
EVERYMAN ROAD MOVIES AT KING'S CROSS FILLING STATION
  PARTY:
MARK RONSON AT XOYO

Back to King's X for some more patio time. Everyman Cinema comes to the forecourt of KXFS (via California) to show the best road trip movies ever made. Settle down under a canopy for a lineup that includes Cars, The Graduate, Drive and Bonnie and Clyde. In true diner fashion there's also a bar stocked with hot dogs, beers and bottomless filter coffee. P.S. For once, it's cards (not cash) only.   Onto some groovin' with Mark Ronson at XOYO. Expect nothing less than a musical mash-up of electro, hip hop, soul, house and Caribbean (and then some) from this genre-defying maven. Joining him will be London-based producer Riton – expect funkadelic beats and synths – and lastly, an "extra-special guest". We hope it's Boy George.

Story

Our favourite long-gone pop up Foreword is back (and on trend) with its now perma-abode, Story. With Tom Sellers as head chef and owner, this restaurant is already packing some serious culinary kudos. Expect an ingredients-led menu with creations such as a 'candle' made from beef fat, served with bread veal tongue and horseradish, and 'three bears' porridge oats cooked in whey. Be warned: this restaurant isn't for nibblers. A set course structure of six or 10 courses will be the menu du jour. But we aren't complaining.

SUNDAY

BRUNCH:
Brunch at 34
  FILM:
SUNDANCE: IN A WORLD

Make room for another brunch spot, this time in Mayfair. While having the usual b-time staples – waffles, eggs benedict – it's all about stretched-out decadent dining at 34. Try indulgent breakfast dishes such as fried duck egg with duck confit and chorizo and soft-boiled duck egg with fois gras soldiers, or opt for something more lunch-like: salt beef sandwiches, lobster macaroni or meat/fish from the grill. Bypass the classic Bloody Mary here for one of their more interesting alternatives: Bloody Maria (with tequila), Bloody Caesar (with clamato juice) and the Bloody Bull (with beef consommé).   Get your independent film fix at Sundance London. If Matthew McConaughey's "career-defining" performance in Mud or Steeve Coogan as Soho King Paul Raymond in The Look of Love isn't your bag, then go for something smaller bill. The comedy In A World looks at the relationship between an underachieving vocal coach (played by Lake Bell, who also wrote and directed) and her father, the don of movie trailer voiceovers, and her attempt to break into the industry.
