Weekend Guide

We're representing all sides of London's spectrum for this weekend's bank holiday bash. Le PARTY is top of our list, naturally – we have three day-to-night smashers, a day-festival in Dalston and some 1990s-style bar time. Food-wise, there's some new Asian, Savoy's latest restaurant and a new five-storey drink and dine den. And, if you still have time, there's also shopping and some photography viewing to be done. Let's go!

Carnaby Shopping Party

Carnaby, our favourite strip (and home to our HQ), is kickstarting the May bank holiday weekend with their annual Carnaby Shopping Party. Expect 20% discounts from over 100 of their stores (hiya American Apparel, Monki and The Kooples) and fashion-forward activities – think exclusive shoe signings by Terry De Havilland in his new store, trend talks by a Grazia Editor, complimentary nail art, and you're on the right track. And lastly, it wouldn't be a party without some (free) food, drinks and DJ sets. Happy shoppers! Simply register for your free ticket here.

If the authentic tapas (jamón iberico, hamburgers, padrón peppers…), the wine tastings, free masterclasses, pop up restaurant and Spanish films don't tempt you, the art and shopping at Campo Viejo's Streets of Spain event should. Famed urban street artists Okuda and Remed will be creating live 3D installations outside, while the first 50 people to quote "Urban Junkies" in the Streets of Spain shop on Monday 6 May will receive a free bottle of Campo Viejo Reserva.

For more information about the festival and to book a table at the restaurant, visit the Streets of Spain tab on the Campo Viejo Facebook page. You must be logged in to view the page.

FRIDAY

EAT:
BROMPTON ASIAN BRASSERIE BY NOVIKOV
  DRINK:
SIMMONS BAR

Fusion we can get on board with (and a finally a reason to trek it to the Brompton Road). If you can look past the ladies-who-lunch crowd and wannabe cast members of MIC, do, because the menu looks worth going for. It mixes European with Asian – expect San Daniele ham and braised beef next to your rock shrimp tempura and robata-cooked Kamchatka king crab.   King's X domination continues. 1990s bar Simmons is back in action with a refurb that includes a skull-shaped disco ball, grandma-style wallpaper, an ice-cream cone chandelier, and quirky, mismatched glassware. It's all very 1990s tack – sip on French Martinis during Happy Hour (which runs from 4pm-9pm, daily) while DJs play disco, funk and soul. Word on the street is that a discotheque is going into the basement too.

PARTY:
URBAN NERDS AT NETIL 360
  PARTY:
MAJOR LAZER AT ROUNDHOUSE AND AFTER PARTY AT BREW HOUSE

Kicking off Netil House's rooftop summer series of curated parties is Urban Nerds' DJ Rattus Rattus. Pray for some rays and get down to some dirty beats before indulging in a little street food on the roof – fried chicken from Thank Cluck, burritos from Breddo's Taco Shack and pasta from The Cooking Cooks. If you're still around at dinnertime, we recommend heading to Lardo (before the next party), just down the road.   Major Lazer are back in town. As part of their Free The Universe World Tour, they're joining up with Ms Dynamite for a dancehall-heavy, reggaeton-infused party at the Roundhouse. Tickets are currently sold out but we have it on good authority to check the website on Friday as there may be more tickets released. If not, book now for the after party at Brew House where Diplo will entertain 'til the early morn. And news just in is that Jillionaire from Major Lazer is going to be at Shoreditch House on Sunday night in the back garden, so if you're a member, get on it.

Forget smelling the glove…We're giving away a pair of tickets to Edible Cinema's Sunday showing at 8.45pm. To enter email competition@urbanjunkies.com.

SUNDAY

EAT:
KASPAR'S SEAFOOD BAR AND GRILL
  FESTIVAL:
LAND OF KINGS

Nothing like a bit of Sunday lunch at The Savoy. Its new restaurant, Kaspar's Seafood Bar and Grill, offers informal yet luxury all-day dining in an art deco setting (think mirrors, Murano glass columns and pendant lighting). The Oyster Bar begins the day as a patisserie breakfast bar before serving seafood – and this is where you'll find us. Go for caviar blinis, rock oysters and a selection of cured/smoked fish. Otherwise, order fish straight off the grill or the classic lobster club.   Shake up Dalston at the annual Land of Kings Festival. The 12-hour neighborhood takeover is set to swamp the stalwart party lairs (Alibi, Birthdays and Moustache Bar are in the mix) with showcase gigs, basement discos, rooftop parties and warehouse raves. Flit between artists such as Raffertie, Disco Bloodbath, Landshapes and wunderkind electro duo TEED (to name a few). Don't forget to catch the Bugged Out 10x10, where ten DJs - including our fave, Skream, Krankbrother and James Lavelle – play their ten all-time favourite dance records.

Following in the famed footsteps of their photo-master father David Bailey, and making their own prints in the industry (quite literally) are his sons Fenton and Sascha. Their debut photography exhibition Human Relations showcases human interaction via a series of sensual and risqué images. The carefully curated collection depicts not only stunning shots but also a first glimpse at the new generation of shutterbugs.

MONDAY PICK

Bird of Smithfield

The highly anticipated Bird of Smithfield opens this Monday. This one-stop drinking and dining shop spreads its wings over five floors of a Georgian townhouse, and is the baby of Alan Bird (who headed up The Ivy kitchen for 15 years). Spend the whole of bank holiday Monday here: it serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and has a chef's table, roof terrace and The Birdcage bar. Cuisine is souped-up British – think Alan's shepherd's pie, native lobster, deep fried cod, welsh rarebit and salted British caviar.

Bird of Smithfield, opens Monday May 6, 26 Smithfield Street, EC1A 9LB

Gin Store – House party in the corner of Merchant Yard

Merchant Yard, 317-319 Kingsland Road, E8 4DL | bookingstreetfeast@gmail.com
@StreetFeastLDN | @Tweat_Up

Location
Enter Street Feast (Merchant Yard, Kingsland Road), take an immediate left and go up the stairs. There is no signage (so '13), but if you can't find it ask around and you'll be directed.
Vibe
6th form house party; the venue literally feels like a house, so dress appropriately (we dusted off the Stussy sweatshirts). Walk past the cool kids on the porch and enter the chalet-style front room. No pretension here, only good times. Finally, a bar that is fun!
Flavours
GIN-GIN-GIN. Following the uni-spirit trend, here it's gin only – and they have quite the selection. UJ tried to stay sober with the gin raspberry concoction (complete with kitsch striped cups and paper straws), but ended up first sharing, then hoarding, gin martinis. They are very, very good.
Tips
It's free to get into the Gin Store, but you have to get into Street Feast first, which is also free, but extremely busy. Avoid the queues by booking a table at Stripped Back by Ben Spalding (which is interesting – we like dining outside, but it's not filling so expect to hit the stalls afterwards, before gin o' clock). Alternatively, find 8-40 friends to book into the private room at the Gin Store.
Upshot
If you are sick of members' bars where no one talks, places that don't play music and cocktails that don't have a clue, then give this a whirl. It's fun, different and not around forever (until June 28) so hop to it. School's out for summer!
