FUEL YOUR SUMMER WITH NIKE+ FUELBAND

TROPICARNIVAL AT KXFS

Sponsored listing

Nike+ FuelBand | Facebook | @NikeUK

Last week we hula'd, we hoopla'd, we shaked and we yoyo'd to earn NikeFuel at our Tropicarnival with the Nike+ FuelBand at KXFS. The DJs belted out tropical tunes while guests sipped on mango slushies, prosecco and beer, and nibbled on fresh salads and portobello mushroom burgers. It all got very competitive at the coconut shy…

See the photos from the night here, and stay tuned for our next Fuel Your Summer event!

ART:
RA SUMMER EXHIBITION
  PARTY:
RED BULL MUSIC ACADEMY & LOVEBOX AT THE FORUM

RA's Summer Exhibition is back for its 245th season (really!). See art old and new from different genres – painting, sculpture, photography, printmaking, architecture and film – including Grayson Perry's tapestries, The Vanity of Small Differences, pieces by Anish Kapoor and newly elected Academician Ron Arad. The annual outdoors installation this year is a huge aluminium bottle top 'wall hanging', which covers the façade of Burlington House, by El Anatsui.   RBMA and Lovebox are joining decks and taking us on a voyage from the disco days of 70s New York through to today. And, staying true to the glitter ball, Detroit star Seth Troxler will play vintage vogue while Nicky Siano will bring the flavour of Studio 54 (a past resident) to the London dance floor. For the bigwig headline act, Nile Rodgers, the man largely responsible for the disco revival, will be blasting Chic beats live from the decks.

TECHIE PICK

Samsung Galaxy S4 and NX300

If, like us, you like a bit of social media action, it's time to meet the latest products from Samsung. We're loving the big screen on their latest phone, the Galaxy S4, and we've been getting snap happy on their NX300 smart camera (which even has wifi). Time for a bit of an Apple detox we think.

Samsung NX300, £599
Samsung Galaxy S4, £199

Muji Charging Tray and Speaker

Now that you have your smart appliances sorted, let's talk charging. Muji has taken its minimalist design aesthetic and created the mama of all techie fusion—a charging tray (yes, tray!) and speaker. Whoever said 2-4-1 was tacky? Fingers crossed for a speedy import, as it's currently only available on the Japanese web store.

AL FRESCO:
CARAVAN KING'S CROSS TERRACE
  FILM:
HOTARU NO HAKA

Caravan King's Cross has just got involved in some outdoor action. Their new front terrace, which is open for breakfast through dinner, will be made up of high and low tables, bordered by edible plants and herbs (used in their dishes) and even has a bar stocked with summery spirit infusions. Come here for coffee and cakes, brunch-time grits and eggs or their all-day pizzas… and then some.   If it rains, a good indoor option is Yoko Ono's Meltdown at BFI Southbank. They're showing a selection of films chosen by her. Our pick is anime classic Hotaru No Haka (Grave of the Fireflies), a story about what it was like to grow up, as Yoko did, during wartime-era Japan. There will also be showings of Food Inc (the documentary about the US food industry), Bowling for Columbine (Michael Moore's classic hot doc about gun control in the States), as well as gems from Yoko's personal archive.

Neuroscientists and DJs aren't a usual combo, but in a one-off collaboration with Smirnoff, the two fields have come together to make musical history. The Smirnoff Mindtunes project brings together PhD Julien Castet, a leading brainwave technology expert, and chart-topping British electronic music producer DJ Fresh, to enable a group of physically disabled music fans, Andy Walker, Jo Portois and Mark Rowland, to create beats with brainwaves. This project is supported by the Queen Elizabeth's Foundation for Disabled People (QEF).

SHOP:
CHANEL NEW BOND STREET
  SHOP:
LN-CC SALE

Chanel's latest store is one part gallery, two parts shop. The three floor, shiny townhouse is made up of intimate areas, each with a different focus. There's a statement accessories area, sunglasses wall, and wall of scarves, while the lobby itself is inspired by Coco Chanel's famed apartment at 31 rue Cambon. Don't miss the giant pearl necklace sculpture or commissioned artwork – and no, we're not talking about the hula-hoop beach bag.   If the name Kawakubo makes you salivate, or your wardrobe is filled with inflated shapes and silhouettes, take note – LN-CC have released a special collection of first-edition books and printed material by Comme des Garçons. Each book is a rare chronicle of the DNA of Comme and its avant-garde designer. If inspiration takes hold, the LN-CC sale starts on June 14.
