West Side Story

"Something's changing in West London – and no it's not a fu*kin' new shop on Westbourne Grove" – is the new maxim for Notting Hill. W11 has moved past the post-Hugh Grant slump with a new heyday upon us.

First, the restaurants are a-coming and we're not talking yummy mummy staples. Russell Norman is set to transport some of the Soho buzz to the hill via his latest Polpo instalment. As of May, expect the tired All Bar One at Notting Hill Gate to be transformed into a sexy bàcaro of small plates and long lines. And it's not just Norman planting a cool new flag into W11: rumour has it The Cock & Bottle may be getting a Balthazar facelift – boozer, brasserie or restaurant? The bets are on.

Besides Notting Hill Arts Club and (dare we say) Supperclub, after dark revelry has been slim pickings. Enter Vince Power. The music heavyweight has taken over Ladbroke Grove stalwart Kensington Park Hotel, rebranded it KPH and installed a line up to watch (Carl Barât of the Libertines is set for Easter weekend). Meanwhile, we hear a new multi-model venue, MODE, is set to launch this Friday. Expect a restaurant, cocktail bar, plus live and electronic music and late nights. Their USP? A changing, "immersive theme" every six months, starting with Future Vintage. We can't say more at this point but expect the industrial revolution via performances, street art and lots of LED lights.

And lastly, the club night that leaves Dalston for dust, Maxilla. What started as a party with cheap drinks and a DIY aesthetic is now a stomping ground for the fashion brigade. Held off the beaten track in a 'working man's club', Maxilla is bringing sexy back, and proving… west is best?
