After last week's Easter blowout, the fun continues. This time around we're going on a gastro-extravaganza with some moonshine to take the edge off, followed by some izakaya action. Then there's a trip to the seaside (almost), a beloved Hackney restaurant reincarnated, and (we couldn't resist) an all nighter. It is the weekend, after all. |

If you haven't seen Matilda The Musical yet, hop to it. The mutli-award winning musical, inspired by the beloved, weird and wonderful novel by the incomparable Roald Dahl, features original (and hilarious) songs by Tim Minchin and book by Dennis Kelly. Matilda The Musical tells the tale of an extraordinary girl who is determined to change her own story, even if it means being a little bit naughty. With a truly terrifying Miss Trunchbull, an epic child vs. chocolate cake battle, and even some magic thrown into the mix, the musical is a must-see for adults and children alike. So whether you take the kiddies along or simply go for yourself, book now!

LIQUOR STORE |

EAT:
KUROBUTA MARBLE ARCH |
 |
Ah, Friday. It's been a long time coming. Kick off the weekend with a drink (or two) at Gillett Street's latest addition, Liquor Store. A seven-week pop up, the Liquor Store focuses on moonshine and craft beer, with rotating food residencies. This weekend sees Mexican masters Santana Grill in the house, serving up tacos and burritos… keep an eye out for signature specials like chicken and chorizo tinga and slow cooked pork carnitas, too. |
 |
It's another pop up gone permanent. After wowing everyone – us included – with Kurobuta King's Road, Scott Hallsworth is throwing open the doors to Kurobuta Marble Arch. Expect the same izakaya ethos as the original, done on a larger scale. There's an all day menu serving up east meets west breakfast options (think croissants with green matcha tea butter) and sharing plates for lunch and dinner, like soft shell crab tempura maki and robata grilled BBQ pork belly steamed buns. Plus, there's a stand-alone bar stocked with sake, frozen head beers and Japanese fruit-infused cocktails, and an al fresco area. Somebody book us a table already. |

'Fantastic. A theatrical coup.' The
Independent |
 |
It may sound serious, but Tony award-winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist David Henry Hwang's play Yellow Face explores the topic of race with wit, satire, and plenty of aplomb. A semi- autobiographical production, Yellow Face straddles the line between reality and fiction, questioning what race really means and, ultimately, asking us to reflect on who we really are. It's a play that is literally skin deep. Book now! |

PARTY:
DARK ROOM WITH MR TIES |
 |
Rawduck (Ducksoup's Hackney sibling) has relaunched, following the emergency demolition of its Amhurst Road home last year. The new digs on Richmond Road boast a boutique natural and biodynamic wine list, so those looking for a new London Fields vino bar are sorted. Plus, a bigger space means a bigger kitchen – expect hearty meal options like grilled mackerel with Tropea onion and blood orange alongside Rawduck's original panini menu (don't miss the cult Reuben sandwiches). |
 |
Now for some partying. Head to Dalston for a subterranean set, courtesy of Mr Ties. As part of Dance Tunnel's Dark Room series (it's all about extended sets from DJs that rarely appear in London), the Berlin-based DJ will be hitting the decks for an all nighter. As the creative force behind Berlin's infamous Homopatik party (an all day and all night blow out), Mr Ties is known for his eclectic mixes: expect a mash up of house, techno, disco and pop from his massive record collection. |

EAT:
BONNIE GULL |
 |
ONE STOP SHOP:
FORGE & CO |
 |
More food? You know you want to. Continue your gastro-extravaganza this weekend by paying a visit to Exmouth Market, where Bonnie Gull Seafood Café has opened up shop. The seafood shack is all grown up, with a 1960s seaside café vibe (vintage jukebox included), a menu all about the catch of the day (of course), and takeaway too. Choose from smoked mussels served up on newspaper, Cockney po' boys, or beer battered North Sea haddock, washed down with Bonnie Marys (vodka with clamato juice and an oyster garnish). Finish things up with a homemade Mr Whippy ice cream…and breathe. |
 |
Adding to the recent culinary boom of Shoreditch High Street (Hoi Polloi, Andina, Lyles) comes The Canteen at Forge & Co, featuring an all day British Isle menu of fresh, simple dishes such as crayfish salads, ox cheek and Cornish lobsters. On Sunday, come here for the roast menu – roast chicken and aged beef plus the less traditional vegetarian options of tofu or sea bream (okay, pescetarian). Although we like the menu, the most interesting aspect of this newbie is that the space itself doubles as a social working environment, with the second floor dedicated to hot desks. So for the freelancers out there… |
