This weekend is all about marmite vodka martinis and grilled cheese sandwiches. In between we’ve got a new American barbeque spot, a Mexican sky lounge and some culture courtesy of David LaChapelle. Plus, we’re already gearing up for the next long weekend (May 23-26) with a couple of picks: Ibiza or a private island…you choose. |

SEE:
DAVID LACHAPELLE |
EAT:
BLUES KITCHEN SHOREDITCH |
Big bill photographer David LaChapelle has graced the walls of the Robilant + Voena Gallery on Dover Street for his latest exhibition Land Scape. Showcasing a series of technicolor photographs of “oil refineries” created out of obsolete objects such as mobiles, plastic straws, beer cans and egg cartons, all shot in various Californian locations, LaChapelle has quite literally given us a pretty picture of a dirty reality. |
Curtain Road has fast become the go-to for a fill of Americana: The Diner, Far Rockaway and now, The Blues Kitchen. An identikit of its Camden outpost - barbeques, tunes and southern soul - expect the same serves of New Orleans Gumbo, Seafood Jambalaya, and its in-house smoked menu (read: barbeque). Plus, the constant rotation of live gigs and 3am closing time means, well, another late night venue has hit the capital. |

CUERVO'S CANTINA AT SKYLOUNGE |
PARTY:
SETH TROXLER AT FABRIC |
Head up to Park Lane Hilton’s Skylounge for a taste of their latest summer resident - Cuervo's Cantina. Serving cocktails by the jug everyday from 4pm, sling back some Palomas, Mexican Mules and Diablos accompanied with a Mexican menu of the usual suspects: taquitos, fajitas and nachos. And if you make the trip up to the 12th floor don’t expect a subtle Latino vibe, with the themed Jose Cuervo bar, mariachi beats and sombrero’s on offer, this is Mexican funhouse kitsch – with a view. |
Cool kid Seth Troxler will be headlining at Fabric tonight alongside his frequent deck collaborator Craig Richards. Expect to hear some of the fresh beats from their new label project Heel to Steel, plus deep techno from UK electro producer Benjamin Damage and the "Berghain sound’ from Marcel Fengler. On the Fabric front, you know the drill: loud, sweaty and dark. Enjoy! |

MORTY & BOB'S GRILLED CHEESE POP UP |
The Talented Mr Fox, aka Matt Whiley, is continuing his cocktail revolution and taking his brand of mixology to the Town Hall Hotel’s newest bar, the Peg + Patriot. For those not up to speed, Whiley is the brains behind the bar at One Leicester Street and creator of such gems as the clarified Bloody Mary (with pigs' blood) and ‘bin juice’ concoctions. He will be upping the ante at its sister hotel, the Town Hall. Think salt beef sazeracs and marmite vodka martinis. But if you prefer your cocktails old school, they have them too via the on-site distillery. |
Now for some comfort food. Head to Broadway Market’s latest pop up, Morty and Bob’s, where the humble grilled cheese sandwich gets top billing. Using the best of British cheese (courtesy of Neal’s Yard Dairy and local suppliers), Morty and Bob’s serves a three-cheese classic (with a secret sauce and onions), plus more adventurous fillings like pulled pork, crispy bacon and avocado salsa. And come summer, we hear it will be cheese on wheels for Morty and Bob’s, as they take their toasties on tour through the festival circuit. |
